Allied Engineering Works Limited (AEW) has announced the acquisition of the Gas Meter Division of Raychem RPG, marking a significant development in India’s gas infrastructure and smart energy sector.
The acquisition combines Raychem RPG’s established legacy of over 13 years in domestic diaphragm gas meters and more than 5 million installed units with AEW’s capabilities in advanced AMI systems, IoT-enabled solutions, and smart energy technologies. Raychem RPG holds an estimated 50% share in India’s domestic gas metering segment, with approximately 47.6 lakh installations out of 95.2 lakh domestic PNG connections nationwide. The company has played a key role in supporting the expansion of City Gas Distribution (CGD) networks in India through its domestic manufacturing and “Make in India” aligned operations.
According to the announcement, the integration is expected to strengthen the gas metering ecosystem by combining large-scale manufacturing experience with next-generation smart metering technologies. The transition aims to support the evolution of conventional gas meters into intelligent, networked systems capable of remote monitoring, real-time data analytics, and improved operational efficiency.
With this acquisition, AEW is positioned to enhance its role in India’s energy technology landscape by integrating production strength with digital innovation in smart metering and connected energy platforms. The combined capabilities are expected to accelerate the development of future-ready gas infrastructure systems in the country.
The company stated that the move represents a strategic step toward building a more advanced and technology-driven gas sector in India.
