How to Apply for the PM Surya Ghar Subsidy in 2026 (Step-by-Step)

Getting your rooftop solar subsidy isn't automatic—you must follow a strict digital process through the national portal. A single misstep can delay your payout by months.

Here is the exact step-by-step process for homeowners in 2026:

  1. Portal Registration: Visit the official pmsuryaghar.gov.in portal. You will need your electricity consumer number (found on your latest bill), your mobile number, and your email address.

  2. Feasibility Approval: Submit your application detailing your roof space and desired kW capacity. Your local DISCOM will review this. Do not buy any equipment until this is approved.

  3. Select an Empanelled Vendor: You must use an MNRE-approved vendor. If you use an unregistered local electrician, your subsidy will be automatically rejected.

  4. Installation and Net Metering: Once installed, your vendor will submit the technical details. You then apply for a net meter through the portal, which the DISCOM will physically install to track your grid exports.

  5. Subsidy Disbursement: After the net meter is active, a commissioning certificate is generated. Upload your cancelled cheque to the portal, and the subsidy will hit your bank account within 30 working days.
