A first-year student of Devi Ahilya University has been expelled from the university hostel following complaints of alleged objectionable conduct, officials confirmed on Friday.
The action was taken after several hostel residents raised concerns regarding the student’s behavior.
Complaint by Fellow Students
According to Vice-Chancellor Dr Rakesh Singhai, the university received a formal complaint from a first-year female student. The complaint alleged that the accused student was engaging in inappropriate activities inside the hostel room and during video calls.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that four other hostel residents submitted similar complaints. The complainants further alleged that the student was encouraging others to connect with men through a mobile application.
Committee Formed for Investigation
Taking the matter seriously, the university constituted an internal inquiry committee to investigate the allegations. During the course of the probe, the hostel warden reportedly conducted a room inspection where certain objectionable items were allegedly found.
Following the inquiry, the administration concluded that allowing the student to continue residing in the hostel could create disturbances for other residents.
Immediate Expulsion from Hostel
Based on the committee’s findings, the university ordered the immediate expulsion of the student from the hostel premises. However, officials clarified that the action pertains specifically to hostel accommodation.
