MNRE Extends PM-KUSUM Project Deadline to March 2027

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has extended the deadline for the completion of projects under the PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) scheme to March 31, 2027, providing a significant boost to ongoing solar initiatives in the agriculture sector.

The extension comes as a relief to developers, implementing agencies, and state authorities facing delays in project execution due to logistical, financial, and on-ground challenges. The move is expected to facilitate the timely completion of pending projects and improve overall implementation progress under the scheme.

Launched in 2019, the PM-KUSUM scheme aims to promote solar energy adoption in agriculture, reduce dependence on diesel-powered irrigation, and enhance farmers’ income by enabling decentralized renewable energy generation. It includes components such as installation of standalone solar pumps, solarisation of grid-connected agricultural pumps, and development of small solar power plants.

The scheme had earlier been extended till March 2026 due to slower-than-expected progress, with several components yet to meet their targets.

With the revised timeline, the government aims to accelerate deployment, address implementation bottlenecks, and strengthen India’s rural energy infrastructure while advancing its broader clean energy transition goals.

The decision underscores the government’s continued commitment to scaling up renewable energy adoption in the agricultural sector and ensuring long-term energy security for farmers across the country.
