Partial operations on Mumbai Metro Line 2B and Mumbai Metro Line 9 are set to commence from April 3, marking another step forward in Mumbai’s expanding urban transit network.
The phased rollout is expected to improve connectivity across key suburban stretches, easing congestion and offering commuters additional travel options. These metro corridors are part of the city’s broader effort to strengthen mass transit infrastructure and reduce dependence on road-based transport.
Alongside the metro developments, groundwork is also being initiated for the proposed Thane–Borivali tunnel project, which aims to significantly cut travel time between the eastern and western suburbs by providing a direct underground link. The project is expected to play a crucial role in decongesting existing arterial routes.
In parallel, plans are advancing for the pod taxi (Personal Rapid Transit) system in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), a first-of-its-kind initiative for Mumbai. The project is designed to enhance last-mile connectivity within one of the city’s busiest business districts, offering a modern and efficient mobility solution.
These developments collectively reflect a multi-pronged approach to urban mobility in Mumbai, combining metro expansion, tunnel connectivity, and innovative transport systems to address rising commuter demand and improve overall travel efficiency across the metropolitan region.
