POWERGRID Committee Clears ₹584.13 Crore Investment for Three Key Infrastructure Projects

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has approved three major infrastructure projects with a total investment of ₹584.13 crore, aimed at strengthening transmission capacity and upgrading communication systems across key regions of the country. The approvals were granted by the company’s Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects, with all projects scheduled for completion by 2028.

The approved initiatives focus on enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) network, particularly in the Western and Eastern regions. These developments align with POWERGRID’s ongoing strategy to modernize its transmission infrastructure and support growing electricity demand.

Among the key projects, the augmentation of the Tuticorin-II GIS Substation has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹132.06 crore. This includes the installation of a 1×500 MVA, 400/230kV ICT (7th), with commissioning targeted for February 17, 2028.

In the Western Region, POWERGRID will undertake a communication upgrade project involving the installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) and associated systems across existing ISTS lines. This project carries an investment of ₹308.49 crore and is expected to be completed by September 18, 2028.

Similarly, in the Eastern Region, a parallel communication upgrade initiative has been approved at a cost of ₹143.58 crore. This project will also involve the deployment of OPGW and related communication infrastructure, with the same completion timeline of September 18, 2028.

Collectively, these projects represent a strategic push to enhance grid resilience, improve real-time communication capabilities, and ensure seamless power transmission. By investing in both substation expansion and advanced communication systems, POWERGRID continues to reinforce its commitment to maintaining grid stability and enabling high-capacity electricity transmission across India.
