A local leader of the Samajwadi Party was killed in a tragic accident after a high mast lighting pole collapsed onto his moving vehicle in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Lal Bahadur Yadav, 48, who was travelling in his car when the incident occurred barely 500 metres from his residence.
🚨 How the Accident Happened
According to officials, a nearly 65-foot-high mast pole was being installed near a petrol pump in a busy market area of Pratapgarh. The structure, reportedly weighing around 40 quintals, was being lifted with the help of a crane.
During the installation process, the crane’s supporting strap suddenly snapped, causing the heavy pole to crash directly onto Yadav’s vehicle.
The shocking incident was captured on nearby CCTV cameras.
🏥 Rushed to Hospital, Declared Dead
Local residents immediately rushed to the spot, broke open the car door, and pulled Yadav out of the damaged vehicle. He was taken to a nearby community health centre, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police officials stated that a case has been recorded and an investigation is underway to determine whether negligence or safety lapses were involved in the installation process.
👤 About Lal Bahadur Yadav
Yadav was a Public Works Department (PWD) contractor by profession and also held a country liquor contract. He had contested local body elections in Antu Nagar Panchayat on two occasions but was unsuccessful.
Family members said he was the eldest among his siblings. He is survived by four daughters and a son.
⚖ Investigation Underway
Authorities are examining safety protocols followed during the installation of the high mast pole and whether adequate precautions were taken in the crowded market area.
Further action will be initiated based on the findings of the inquiry.
