Tsuyo Manufacturing Secures Two Global-First EV Motor Patents

Tsuyo Manufacturing, a leading integrated electric vehicle (EV) powertrain company, today announced the grant of additional two breakthrough motor technology Patents, marking another significant milestone in its innovation-led journey and reinforcing its position as a global deep-tech player in EV systems.

The newly granted patents include:

  • Non-Magnetic Bridge Assisted Synchronous Reluctance Electric Motor
  • Fault-Tolerant Five-Phase Interior Permanent Magnet Motor with Dual Inverter Control

These globally novel designs reflect Tsuyo’s commitment to advancing indigenous R&D and building high-performance, reliable, and scalable EV solutions engineered in India for the world.

The first patent introduces a non-magnetic bridge design in synchronous reluctance motors (SynRM), significantly enhancing efficiency and torque density while reducing energy losses. The design also improves structural strength and enables a cost-effective motor architecture with optimized reliance on rare-earth materials, an increasingly critical factor in EV manufacturing.

The second patent focuses on a fault-tolerant five-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) powered by a dual inverter system. Featuring an open-end winding configuration, the system enables dynamic switching between:

  • Star mode for optimized startup efficiency
  • Delta mode for high torque demand

This intelligent switching capability ensures real-time adaptability, enabling improved torque control, enhanced system efficiency, and uninterrupted operation even in the event of a single-phase failure. The innovation is particularly relevant for demanding on-road and off-road EV applications where reliability is mission-critical.

Vijay Kumar, Founder & CEO of Tsuyo Manufacturing, commented on the announcement, stating, “These patents mark a significant milestone and recognition in our mission to develop and promote Design-In-India technology for both domestic and global EV markets. At Tsuyo, we are not merely creating components; we are engineering a comprehensive design approach, crafting fundamental technology to drive sustainable and impactful innovation. Our goal is to offer a resilient powertrain system that addresses real-world performance challenges in electric mobility. Our commitment to deep-tech innovation, supported by a strong in-house R&D team and robust academic collaborations, enables us to challenge conventional construction and topology in hardware. This approach allows us to create niche, modular designs that are manufacturable and scalable, delivering solutions that enhance efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness for OEMs. We take pride in being India’s fastest research and engineering startup, consistently advancing our research from TRL1 to TRL9 levels. As India moves towards electrification, we are proud to contribute to the ‘Design in India, for the world’ vision while expanding our IP portfolio with numerous innovations in the pipeline.”

These innovations were developed as part of Tsuyo’s strong focus on indigenous R&D and engineering, with contributions from the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, as part of academia collaboration under the guidance of Prof. Ritesh Keshari and Prof. Ramsha Sachin. With over 29 patentable innovations across motor topologies, Tsuyo continues to build a robust intellectual property portfolio, strengthening India’s position in the global EV value chain. These forthcoming patents encompass new materials, novel construction methods, innovative embedded software integration, and unique system engineering approaches.

Tsuyo has successfully deployed over 300,000 powertrains across various electric mobility platforms and is a trusted partner for more than 25 OEMs, including industry leaders in diverse sectors. These sectors encompass on-road applications such as three-wheeler and four-wheeler commercial vehicles, as well as off-road electric vehicles, agricultural equipment, and industrial machinery. The company holds ISO 9001, 14001, and IATF certifications and is the first Indian startup in this domain to engage in both direct and indirect exports.

With an integrated approach that covers design, engineering, and manufacturing, Tsuyo transcends the role of a mere component supplier by providing OEMs with comprehensive, high-performance EV powertrain solutions. Recently, Tsuyo received approval from the Government of Karnataka for its forthcoming manufacturing expansion. This initiative aims to enhance advanced powertrain production and accelerate innovation capabilities, further supporting the PMeDrive mandate.
