Veteran Odia singer Geeta Patnaik, whose voice defined generations, has passed away at 73.

Cuttack, Odisha – Veteran Odia playback singer Geeta Patnaik passed away on Sunday evening at the age of 73 after suffering a brain stroke. She was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack when she breathed her last, family sources confirmed.

According to relatives, the singer fell ill while attending a public event earlier this week. She was initially admitted to Capital Hospital, where medical examinations revealed that she had suffered a brain stroke. As her condition required advanced care, she was later shifted to a private hospital in Cuttack.

Despite medical efforts, doctors declared her dead on Sunday evening.

A Legendary Voice of Odia Music

Geeta Patnaik was widely regarded as one of the most iconic voices in Odia music. Her career spanned several decades, during which she recorded numerous popular songs that remain cherished by music lovers across Odisha.

She was especially known for her collaborations with legendary Odia singer Akshaya Mohanty. Among her most memorable songs was “Phur Kina Udigala Bani” from the Odia film Jajabar, a track that continues to hold nostalgic value for listeners.

Her melodious voice and emotive singing style earned her immense respect in the Odia music industry.

Final Rites

Family members stated that her mortal remains will be taken to her residence in Cuttack on Monday. The last rites will be performed thereafter in the presence of family, friends, and admirers.

With her passing, Odisha has lost one of its most treasured musical voices. Tributes have begun pouring in from fans and members of the music fraternity, remembering her lasting contribution to Odia culture and music.
