HBL Engineering Limited has secured a ₹83.81 crore contract from Patiala Locomotive Works for the deployment of Kavach safety systems, further strengthening its presence in India’s railway safety infrastructure segment.
The order involves the supply, testing, and commissioning of onboard Kavach equipment (Version 4.0), which forms a critical component of Indian Railways’ indigenous train protection system.
According to the company’s regulatory disclosure, the contract is classified as a domestic order and is scheduled to be completed on or before April 15, 2027. The value of ₹83.81 crore is inclusive of applicable taxes.
Kavach is an automatic train protection (ATP) system designed to enhance railway safety by preventing incidents such as signal passing at danger (SPAD), overspeeding, and potential collisions, through real-time monitoring and automatic braking intervention.
This order adds to HBL Engineering’s growing portfolio of Kavach-related contracts across multiple railway zones and production units, reflecting the accelerated nationwide rollout of the technology. The company has been actively involved in supplying and implementing these systems as Indian Railways intensifies efforts toward modernisation, safety enhancement, and technology-driven operations.
The latest contract reinforces HBL Engineering’s position as a key player in the railway safety and signalling ecosystem, while also supporting the broader objective of deploying indigenously developed safety technologies across India’s rail network.
