High-Speed Corridor to Boost Connectivity and Economy of Gwalior-Chambal: Scindia

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated on Monday that the upcoming high-speed Gwalior-Chambal Expressway project is set to significantly boost connectivity and drive economic growth in the region. “The Gwalior-Agra Greenfield Expressway, being built at a cost of ₹5,500 crore, will cut the existing route by nearly 32 kilometers, bringing the total distance down to around 88 kilometers,” Scindia said after inspecting the project.

He added that the existing two-lane road will be expanded into a six-lane high-speed corridor, designed for a minimum speed of 100 km/h. Scindia stated that the journey from Agra to Gwalior, which currently takes two and a half to three hours, will be reduced to just 45 to 50 minutes.

He stated that the expressway will open to the public in roughly three years, featuring state-of-the-art facilities with controlled entry and exit points. “There will be just four major entry and exit points along the entire route, designed to maintain smooth and safe traffic flow. This setup will ensure the high-speed corridor operates efficiently and without interruptions,” Scindia mentioned.

A six-lane bridge over the Chambal River will be constructed using modern technology, promising a world-class structure. He added that a 28-km western bypass is also under development to connect Shivpuri, with an estimated cost of ₹1,400 crore. Once completed, it will significantly improve travel between Delhi, Gwalior, Shivpuri, and Guna.
