Hitachi Energy, Samsung C&T Expand Partnership to Advance Global Grid Infrastructure and Energy Security

Hitachi Energy and Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand their strategic collaboration on high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) grid infrastructure worldwide. The agreement aims to accelerate grid modernization and strengthen energy security as global electrification demand continues to rise.

The partnership builds on a longstanding relationship between the two companies, combining Hitachi Energy’s expertise in grid technologies, advanced engineering, electrical systems, and digital solutions with Samsung C&T’s strong engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) capabilities. Together, they will identify, assess, and pursue opportunities in AC grid infrastructure projects across global markets.

The collaboration comes at a time when power grids are undergoing rapid transformation, driven by increasing integration of clean energy and rising demand from sectors such as mobility, industry, and data centers. As system variability grows, the need for flexibility has intensified, positioning AC solutions as a critical component for efficient transmission, distribution, and cross-border electricity flow.

Niklas Persson, CEO of Hitachi Energy’s Grid Integration Business Unit, emphasized that resilient AC grid infrastructure will be fundamental in enabling the global energy transition. He noted that the expanded collaboration is designed to accelerate grid modernization, enhance system resilience, and support large-scale renewable energy integration, contributing to a more interconnected and energy-secure future.

Lee Byung-soo, Executive Vice President at Samsung C&T, highlighted the companies’ successful collaboration in markets such as the UAE and Australia, stating that their proven model will serve as a competitive advantage in global power infrastructure projects. He added that the partnership will continue to focus on delivering complex cross-border transmission projects using integrated AC and DC solutions.

Under the MoU, both companies will establish a strategic framework to align on AC project opportunities, develop a shared go-to-market roadmap, and build a robust opportunity pipeline. The agreement also reinforces their existing collaboration across multiple global projects, particularly in the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) segment, as they continue to deliver innovative and efficient power infrastructure solutions.
