Indian Railways Launches New Delhi–Gorakhpur Amrit Bharat Express to Enhance Affordable Long-Distance Travel

Indian Railways has launched the new Amrit Bharat Express between New Delhi and Gorakhpur, further expanding its affordable long-distance train network to provide improved travel facilities for middle- and lower-income passengers.

The newly introduced service is expected to strengthen rail connectivity between the national capital and eastern Uttar Pradesh, particularly benefiting daily travellers, migrant workers, students, and families travelling between Delhi and Gorakhpur.

The Amrit Bharat Express trains are designed as cost-effective alternatives offering enhanced passenger comfort with modern Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches and push-pull locomotive technology. These trains can accelerate more quickly and operate more smoothly while maintaining affordable fares compared to premium train services.

According to railway-related updates, the New Delhi–Gorakhpur Amrit Bharat Express is expected to operate between Old Delhi and Gorakhpur, covering approximately 724 km. The service is aimed at easing congestion on existing high-demand routes connecting Delhi with eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The train will feature sleeper-class and unreserved coaches equipped with modern passenger amenities, including charging points, LED lighting, CCTV surveillance systems, passenger information displays, bio-vacuum toilets, and improved seating and luggage arrangements.

The launch forms part of Indian Railways’ broader strategy to expand the Amrit Bharat network across major intercity and long-distance routes. Over the past year, several new Amrit Bharat services have been introduced, connecting key regions including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Assam, and Delhi.

Railway officials have stated that the growing rollout of Amrit Bharat trains is intended to improve affordable rail mobility while reducing pressure on existing mail and express services operating on heavily crowded corridors.
The expansion also aligns with the government’s focus on modernising passenger rail infrastructure through upgraded rolling stock, improved station facilities, and enhanced connectivity across high-demand travel routes.
