PM Modi Inaugurates Noida International Airport Phase I, Creating Second Air Gateway for Delhi-NCR

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Phase I development of the Noida International Airport in Uttar Pradesh, marking the launch of a major aviation infrastructure project aimed at strengthening connectivity in the Delhi-NCR region.

Located at Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, the airport is being developed as a greenfield international aviation hub, and is expected to function as the second major airport serving Delhi-NCR, alongside Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The first phase of the project has been designed to handle 12 million passengers annually, with a single runway and terminal infrastructure tailored to accommodate both domestic and international traffic. The development is part of a long-term plan to scale capacity significantly in subsequent phases, eventually positioning the airport among the largest in India.

The project is being implemented by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, under a public-private partnership model.

The new airport is expected to play a critical role in decongesting air traffic at Delhi’s existing airport, while also enhancing connectivity for western Uttar Pradesh and adjoining regions. It is strategically linked with key infrastructure corridors, including the Yamuna Expressway, and is being integrated with future transport networks such as metro and high-speed rail systems.

Beyond passenger movement, the airport is also being developed with a strong focus on cargo and logistics infrastructure, supporting trade and industrial growth in the region. It is expected to boost economic activity by attracting investment, tourism, and employment opportunities.

The commissioning of Phase I marks a significant milestone in India’s aviation expansion strategy, with the Noida International Airport emerging as a key node in the country’s evolving multi-airport systems for major metropolitan regions.
