Thermax Limited and Ankur Scientific Energy Technologies Pvt Ltd Partner to Develop Green Methanol Facility at Deendayal Port

Thermax Limited has entered into a strategic partnership with Ankur Scientific Energy Technologies Pvt Ltd to set up a green methanol production facility at Deendayal Port in Gujarat, marking a significant step toward advancing alternative fuels and decarbonisation efforts in India.

The project will focus on producing green methanol using biomass-based feedstock, positioning it as a cleaner alternative to conventional fossil fuels. The initiative aligns with India’s broader push toward sustainable fuels and low-carbon industrial solutions.

The proposed facility will leverage Ankur Scientific’s expertise in biomass gasification technology, combined with Thermax’s capabilities in engineering and project execution. The collaboration is expected to create an integrated system for converting biomass into methanol, which can be used across multiple sectors, including shipping, power generation, and industrial applications.

Located at Deendayal Port, one of India’s key maritime hubs, the project benefits from strong logistics connectivity, enabling efficient distribution and potential export of green methanol. The port-based location also supports the growing demand for cleaner marine fuels as the shipping industry moves toward decarbonisation.

Green methanol is emerging as a promising fuel for reducing emissions in hard-to-abate sectors. By utilising renewable feedstock, the facility is expected to contribute to lowering carbon intensity while promoting the circular use of agricultural and organic waste.

The partnership reflects a broader industry trend of investing in sustainable fuel technologies, with increasing focus on green hydrogen derivatives and bio-based fuels. It also supports India’s ambition to become a hub for green energy production and exports.

Once operational, the facility is expected to strengthen the country’s alternative fuel ecosystem, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and contribute to the development of cleaner industrial and transport solutions.
