Delhi Metro Begins Mid-Life Refurbishment of Blue Line Trains to Enhance Safety and Comfort

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has initiated a mid-life refurbishment programme for its Blue Line train fleet, aimed at enhancing passenger safety, comfort, and operational efficiency.

The Blue Line, one of the longest and most heavily used corridors of the Delhi Metro network, connects Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida Electronic City/Vaishali, serving a large volume of daily commuters across key urban and suburban areas.

The refurbishment programme focuses on upgrading train interiors and critical systems, as the fleet approaches its mid-life operational cycle. Key improvements include the installation of modern passenger information systems, upgraded seating arrangements, improved lighting, and enhanced interior aesthetics, providing a more comfortable and contemporary travel experience.

In addition to passenger-facing upgrades, the initiative also involves technical enhancements to ensure higher safety standards and reliability. This includes refurbishment of traction systems, braking systems, and other critical components, aimed at extending the operational life of the trains while maintaining performance efficiency.

The programme is being implemented in a phased manner, ensuring that services on the Blue Line continue without disruption while trains are taken up for refurbishment sequentially.

This initiative reflects DMRC’s continued focus on asset lifecycle management and service quality enhancement, especially for older rolling stock that has been in operation since the early phases of the metro network.

The refurbishment is expected to significantly improve passenger experience while ensuring sustained operational safety and efficiency, reinforcing the Delhi Metro’s position as one of the most reliable urban transit systems in the country.
