Delhi Plans 192 km Yamuna-Side Elevated Corridor as Metro Phase IV Nears 80% Completion

Delhi Plans 192 km Yamuna-Side Elevated Corridor as Metro Phase IV Nears 80% Completion

The Government of Delhi is exploring the development of a 192-km elevated corridor along the Yamuna River, stretching from Wazirabad to DND (Delhi–Noida Direct) Flyway, as part of a broader plan to ease traffic congestion and enhance urban mobility.

The proposed corridor is expected to run parallel to the Yamuna riverbank, creating a high-capacity, signal-free transit route aimed at decongesting key arterial roads across the national capital. The project is being evaluated as a long-term infrastructure solution to address increasing vehicular pressure in the city.

The development comes at a time when Delhi Metro Phase IV is nearing significant completion, with approximately 80% of the work already completed. The metro expansion includes new corridors and extensions designed to improve connectivity across underserved areas of the city.

With metro expansion progressing steadily, the proposed elevated corridor is being seen as a complementary infrastructure project, aimed at strengthening last-mile connectivity and providing an alternative high-speed road network alongside existing transit systems.

The Yamuna-side corridor is also expected to integrate with major road networks and urban nodes, potentially improving connectivity between North Delhi, Central Delhi, and the Noida region, thereby reducing travel time and improving traffic flow efficiency.

While the project is currently in the planning and feasibility stage, it reflects the government’s broader strategy to develop multi-modal urban infrastructure, combining metro rail expansion with advanced road networks to support the capital’s growing mobility demands.

If implemented, the corridor could emerge as one of the largest elevated road projects in Delhi, significantly transforming the city’s transportation landscape while supporting future urban growth.
