In a major push to rail connectivity in Jammu & Kashmir, the Vande Bharat Express service has been extended to Jammu Tawi, enhancing seamless travel between Jammu and the Kashmir Valley.
The train, which was earlier operating between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar, will now run directly from Jammu Tawi, with the inaugural special service scheduled for April 30, 2026.
This extension is expected to significantly improve connectivity for tourists, pilgrims, and local commuters, offering a faster and more comfortable travel option between Jammu and Srinagar.
A key highlight of the upgraded service is the increase in train capacity, with the number of coaches expanded from 8 to 20, allowing more passengers to travel while improving overall comfort and convenience.
The train is also specially designed for the region’s challenging weather conditions. It includes winterisation features such as heating systems, insulated components, and anti-freezing mechanisms, ensuring smooth operations even in sub-zero temperatures.
The extension is expected to play a crucial role in boosting tourism, strengthening regional mobility, and supporting economic development in Jammu & Kashmir. By directly linking Jammu with the Kashmir Valley, the service will reduce travel time and improve accessibility across the Union Territory.
This development forms part of Indian Railways’ broader strategy to expand high-speed, modern rail connectivity across key regions, particularly in strategically important and geographically challenging areas.
